Dear Dr. Plaud: I enjoyed my visit to your website and look forward to seeing the museum in person on one of my trips to visit relatives in Newton, Massachusetts. As an actor, I regularly portray FDR for the FDR Library and Home and for the History Channel.

I enjoyed reading about President Roosevelt. As a child growing up in Washington, D.C. during WWII, I had the unique opportunity to present flowers to the President. I also met Mrs. Roosevelt several times once with Shirley Temple when they were promoting War Bonds.

Born in 1935, one of nine kids born to parents who had immigrated to the US years before from Yugoslavia, I am a FDR partisan. One thing bothers me. As a school child, we were quite aware of the Presidents polio and handicap. There was no scheme to conceal it. Why are we being told by some quarters that it, his handicap, was being kept from us. I also remember seeing movie short subjects featuring the President in his efforts to enhance the March Of Dimes, and he would be sitting in his wheelchair. He was the greatest president, master politician and human being!

I want to thank you for all your efforts, time and devotion to who I believe to be one of our greatest American Presidents. When it was said days after his death that "men a thousand years from now would thank God" that he gave Franklin Roosevelt to the United States, it is through centers of study such as yours that will help those that follow us of a time in our history when this nation faced with 2 tremendous challedges was fortunate to have a man such as Franklin Delano Roosevelt to look to for hope. His last written words, never spoken by his voice, nonetheless continue to speak to us fro all time "The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today. Let us move forward with strong and active faith". Thank you once more and every good wish to all of you.

Good wealth of information here, such as the grave of LM HOWE. This is a man that is responsible for much change that occured in FDR's/AER's life.
As far as the Dime issue is concerned. I suggest that they take Lincoln's image from the penny and substitute Reagan's if they want to do anything. Better yet, the 5$ bill.
Obsurd? You bet. As obsurd as taking the man that made the dime a token of giving, that founded the March of Dimes, off of the peoples' coin. No other person in our history galvinized the nation to give a dime more than FDR. This is not to say I am not a Lincoln fan, to the contrary. I just would like to see the Reps. take one of their own off our currency before messing with one who made a difference in my life, 70 years later.
Thanks

Priscilla J. Orta of Cambridge, MA asks: "I was just wondering
what I, and others, could do to stop the Regan Dime Act. Even if it
is just a publicity stunt, I think that it's worth getting vocal about."
Good question! One thing you can do is to join and support our FDR
Center, whose efforts go to solving the problem you articulate. Just
click on the Join Us! button on the left sidebar. Further, you should
contact your Congressman and Senators directly and let them know how
upset you are. Finally, I thought I'd share with you this bit of good
news, an excerpt from the Associated Press: "Nancy Reagan opposes
replacing FDR with Reagan on dimes...The Associated Press...Last Updated
6:02 a.m. PST Saturday, December 6, 2003...LOS ANGELES (AP) - Nancy
Reagan voiced her opposition Friday to an attempt by Republican lawmakers
to put Ronald Reagan's likeness on the dime in place of Franklin Delano
Roosevelt. 'While I can understand the intentions of those seeking
to place my husband's face on the dime, I do not support this proposal
and I am certain Ronnie would not,' the former first lady said in
a statement released Friday. 'When our country chooses to honor a
great President such as Franklin Roosevelt by placing his likeness
on our currency, it would be wrong to remove him and replace him with
another,' she said. 'It is my hope that the proposed legislation will
be withdrawn.'"

Dear Martha, I am pleased to answer your question posed to our
website at www.fdrheritage.org On April 30, 1939, the New York World's
Fair opened in New York City. The opening ceremony, which featured
speeches by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and New York Governor
Herbert Lehman, ushered in the first day of television broadcasting
in New York. Hope this helps. Take care, Dr. Joe Plaud Joseph
